sat navs for larger vehicles

Please will anyone advise on a sat nav for a motorhome. I would like
something that is suitable for lorries and doesn't take me under low
bridges or very narrow roads.

That site doesn't have the 12' 9" bridge on the A488 south of
Shrewsbury despite me repeatedly submitting it. There are many other
bridges missing as well.

Number one in a field of err... one, as far as I can tell.

I've never used it, and looking at the map coverage on the webpage, I'd
be extremely reluctant to fork out an extra 200 quid over the cost of
the system I currently use, which is Tomtom on a PDA, and keep an eye
open for problems. And yes, my 30 years of experience helps a lot when
it comes to remembering roads that I *really* didn't want to go along
last time. I drive large glass boxes full of people for a living, by the
way.

It will also conveniently fail to cover the areas you want to take a
motorhome in detail, because, give the choice, most truck drivers stick
to major, straight roads, preferably motorways. These are well covered,
as are major city centres. That impossible left/ right turn in the
middle of the village in the Cotswolds? You're on your own.... Or in my
case, with 53 backseat drivers all taking the mickey out of you....

I've seen a plugin for Tomtom that may help you on one of the trucking
websites, as in, you can tell it to avoid all bridges under a certain
height and it will use the Tomtom smart routing to recalculate things,
but there was no trial version, and it didn't look as if it would cope
with what I wanted so I didn't look too hard.

Buy a Tomtom and a trucker's atlas is the best I can suggest.
