If you were Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options
I've just bought one and downloaded the software from the CD onto my
computer. When I want to load the TT One with maps etc. the screen says
that it isn't connected, though it clearly is.
Anyone else had a similar problem? I'm a novice, and I'd appreciate advice.
Thanks in advance.
Eric
What Operating System is your PC? What Firewall software and is your
ONE connected directly to the PC via USB or through a USB hub?

Thanks for responding but I really am a novice. My firewall is Black ice,
and I have BT broadband - if that is my Operating System. And I don't know
the difference between a USB or a USB hub!
I've got further problems with the thing. The screen remains blank when I
switch it on or off , even though I've charged the internal battery. I've
read the paperwork properly now and just reported these things to the
supplier. They haven't got back to me yet but I think I'll have to send it
back to them.
Many thanks again for responding.

It sounds as though it needs a reset. There's a small hole near to the

usb connector on the TomTom; press and hold a blunt pin in here (you'll
feel a click as it goes in), and while holding it press and hold the
power button till it powers up. It should show the TomTom logo and give
a short drum sound. Power it off. Connect to computer with TomTom Home
running and power on. It should ask whether to connect to computer
Yes/No. Select Yes and it should appear in TomTom Home. If you can't get
this to work then you need either to have a one to one with someone who
has a TomTom One successfully connected to his/her computer and get a
hands on tutorial or else take the device back to supplier and ask for
help or refund.
I got the reset trick from a TomTom techie. It seems they won't put it
in the manual for some reason.

BT is your braodband supplier, your operating system would be something
like Microsoft Windows XP, or Windows 98 etc. Your firewall may
blocking the connection to your Tomtom ONE.

USB is the type of connection between your ONE and your PC. A USB hub
is an adapter much like a 4-way mains plug extension which gives you
more ports. some devices don't like these and must be plugged directly
into the PC itself rather than a hub.

How are you charging it? Does the power light illuminate when it is
charging? A reset may resolve your issues, insert a paper clip into
the small reset hole underneath and press gently for two seconds to
reset.
