I am in the process of "trying out" this Garmin Nuvi 660 from QVC. I
live in Northern Ireland and I already use an older Garmin 300 and I am
very happy with the maps from Naveq for both areas in the Island of
Ireland. I was prepared to upgrade for the wider screen, the newer maps
and the Bluetooth features for Handsfree use.
However there is a delay of about 5 seconds between passing a road
intersection and the Garmin map, at about 55mph. This delay is a pain
on country roads but in towns/cities it is downright dangerous.
Have others had this problem? Is there a fix? or should I just give up
and return this item?

Maybe I'm missing something, I don't use a GPS navigator generally, but why
is a 5s delay dangerous? Doesn't the thing give you advance notice of a
turn?

Oh, and what are you doing travelling at 55mph in towns and cities anyway??

I have checked out this issue, "Map Lag", on other message boards and it
is a
problem. The difficulty is you have passed the road junction before
the map
updates. I stated 55 mph for rural driving not city streets - at
least in
country A roads there are fewer junction options in the same
place. I have
upgraded the Firmware to 3.0 from the Garmin site but
there is only a little
improvement.
Some comments state that the lag is less following a planned route,
but it is an
expensive piece of electronics not to work as expected. I
wonder if the wide
screen is a factor?

I have a Nuvi 310 and don't suffer any "map Lag"
