I've just registered my V6 copy of City Select and was entitled to the City
Navigator V8 update DVD, which arrived in the post this morning (Sat.4th),
it came very quickly only rang on Thursday afternoon.
I've installed the update but it says that the "maps details locked".
Unfortunately Garmin's helpline isn't manned at the weekends so I can't find
an answer form them.
The Unlock code I have for City Select doesn't seem to work.... has anyone
got a solution?
Regards
Adam

Fixed it, now up and running. Very pleased, but boy, those map sets are big,
lets hope I never travel
too far from home!

Adam,

Can you be more specific about how much larger the mapsets are than V6?
I have a GPSV with 19MB max.

My local area of SE Spain was made up of 5 tiles=10.6mb with City
Select v7; with City Nav v8 it's one tile=16.1mb. The effect is
exaggerated in Spain because of the increased coverage, but the GPS V
could only accept one tile; which virtually rules it out for further
auto use. I'm now actively researching a replacement, and the trends in
Garmin marketing means I'm looking at other manufacturers.

To give you an idea if you wanted to cover London and the M25, first open
the following Garmin page so you can see what I'm referring
to...
http://www.garmin.com/cgi-bin/mapgen/webmap.cgi?p=9371649&l=0&u=1&v=0...

The central strip covering most of London is 14.4Mb
The eastern square covering eastern London is 10.6Mb
The western square, which only has a tiny bit of the M25 on is 9.74Mb

The junction between the Central strip and the eastern block can be
seen here...
