I aim to buy a Go 720 which comes with UK and European mapping.

I will be visiting the USA in April and will need NEast coast mapping
which I can download from Tomtom home.
I cannot find the cost of the USA mapping and am considering buying
the Go 920 which includes the USA.

Typical prices (Amazon) are Go720 =3D =A3220.79, Go920 =3D =A3295.
Can anyone tell me if the USA mapping cost exceeds the 720/920 price
difference ? (=A375).

Another mapping query. When updating Europe/USA mapping once purchased
is there an additional cost ?

TIA

Given that the 920 has a TMC Receiver (£40) Bluetooth Remote (£45) and
EPT as well as the US/Canada mapping then it makes it very good value,
especially if you need the additional mapping.

Map updates are at addittional cost (as they would be if you repaced a
road atlas) but you do get a 30-day map guarantee that ensures you get
the latest available map wwhen you purchase the device.

I recently reviewed the 920/x20 range here:

Thanks for the comments.

I have read your excellent comprehensive review and am well impressed
by the 920.

However - I now discover that I can obtain a Go 720 for =A3180 from
Dixons (and the 920 for =A3275) so it still comes down to the 'initial'
cost of downloading USA mapping from Tomtom Home rather than an
'updating' cost. I cannot find the initial cost for a download from
the Tomtom site - although hardware costs (SDcard or DVD) for similar
mapping for other Satnavs seems high.

I am aware that the 720 at the knockdown price has no TMC.

Did you do a specific 720 review or can I pick the relevant sections
out of the 920 one ?

Thanks again.

If you ignore EPT (and TMC if the 720 is non 'T') then the other areas
are identical. I'd still say the 920 mades sense with US mapping being
a requirement. It makes the EPT (worth having), remote and TMC pretty
much free.

Have you considered the Garmin Nuvi 770, it comes with European and USA
mapping ?
As the maps are by Navteq , they should have better USA coverage than Tele
Atlas.
