I've been reading about the TTN6 after somebody suggested and it's
exactly what
I want on a sat nav. However from what I've read it
doesn't sound like a
standalone sat nav and I'm a little confused on
how it works. From the sale
sites I've been on it looks like they send
you a disc with the software on and
you install the software i.e.
TomTom Navigator 6 to a device such as a pc, pda,
mobile etc. Is this
correct?
If so does the satnav software run independently from the operating
system on
the computer device? I don't like the sound of a satnav
running off windows
because if i'm lost in the middle of nowhere and
windows crashes like the crap
software it is I'd be screwed.
I take it if I was to buy TTN6 i would have to buy the computer device
separately is that correct? Or would I be able to install N6 on a
satnav device
rather than a computer device?
As I've said N6 is exactly what I want but it's a little complicated so
is there
another satnav that is standalone that will do exactly what the
N6 does? I would
really appreciate your help guys. Thanks.

CD in the pack that you get, using a key code that is also in the pack
to register it for use with that PDA only.
One thing you should be aware of is that the latest maps available date
from April 2007, and there are no newer maps to be made available for
Navigator 6 according to the Tomtom website.
Navigator 7 is a later PDA/phone based version of the software which
will run on a very restricted set of Windows Mobile 5 devices, and has
up to date maps available.
All the Tomtom dedicated units run a similar program to Navigator 7, but
under a different operating system. Almost anything Navigator 6 will do,
the dedicated units will do, with the benefit that maps can be updated.
Some of the cheaper units do have parts of the program disabled, though.
On most Windows CE 2003 PDAs that I've tried it on, Navigator 6 is
totally reliable, one exception I know of is the iPaq Messenger HW65xx/
HW69xx series, where there is a known incompatibility with the
bluetooth, which causes the display to freeze, but I've found that
pressing the on/off button for a couple of seconds brings up a Windows
shutdown menu which goes away after a few more seconds, restoring the
screen.
Hope this helps.

TN v6 also runs on Symbian, but not v7.
