Just updated my TomTom map to one with MapShare, which lets me notify
corrections to TomTom and have the option of being able to download and
implement corrections made by other TomTom users.

In theory it sounds like a good idea, but does anyone have a grasp of
what the risk is of unwittingly installing others' corrections which
have been made wrongly, either unwittingly or deliberately (ie sabotage)?

Or is it too early to be able to tell?

I've had no problem with them and you can always delete them in TT

I'm not prejudiced. I hate everyone equally.

I've set my level of trust to "Approved by TomTom" only.

Surely this just takes you back to the problem that mapshare was trying
to solve? Tomtom maps are often 2/3 years out-of-date because this is
the time-span taken by their map suppliers to incorporate changes.

Quite possible, with the hope that differences can be given without
major map upgrades. The documentation implies that they do go around
checking this stuff.

There are quite a few levels of trust, and I'm not sure how much I trust
my own updates. I planned a route on it yesterday and it had me
overshooting a right turn to turn around at a roundabout and then turn
left going an extra mile or so. The layout was

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
============ =============
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
|
                 |
                 |

Where >>>> is the left to right lane I was on, and <<<< was the right
to left, and | is the road wanted to turn right into.

Fortunately it was encoded such that I could change a short section of
the right to left lane to two way, so my change while maybe not
technically right should enable it to allow you to turn right.
I'll check next time I ask it to plan that route.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
============ =============
====<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I think the actual problem was the geometry of the junction with the
separate lanes splitting off too soon.
