Can anyone please tell me if any current Satnavs can find
a location using British Nation Grid reference as used on
UK Ordnance Survey maps?

The only one I know that does this is the Garmin 550 but
I don't need a multi-purpose ultra-robust model and can't
justify the very high price of these units.

The reason I need this is that I walk with several groups
who set the walk start point as a Grid Reference. The meet
points are usually out in the wilds somewhere and don't
have addresses or even Postcodes, so a Satnav that can locate
by BNG would be perfect for me.

Thanks in advance

Garmin units designed for in-car use (their so-called automotive units)
generally will generally not do this (people who drive can't use maps I
suppose), but AFAIK most if not all of their handheld units do accept
co-ordinates in a variety of formats including the British National Grid. My
Garmin GPS 72 certainly does and you can't get much more basic than that.
(Mind you it doesn't have any maps so you still have to use an OS paper one.)

Not really current, but a Nuvi 360 accepts BNG and is still available
new with the latest Garmin maps from eBay for less than £100. Got one
from satnaveasy earlier this year.

Have you considered a second-hand GPS12? A couple have recently been sold on
Ebay for 30 or 40 UKP - and I'm sure that more will appear before too long.
[You could ask to be notified when one is next listed].

Mapsource - the Garmin "operating" system program - will accept
British National Grid references; from where they can be transferred
to any of their GPSrs as waypoints (points of interest in nuspeak)
