Hi all.. Hope someone can help. Looking to buy a sat nav over this
weekend. I have used a tomtom in the past and liked it lots, as was
real easy to use.

I am a little unsure of which to go for.. feels like buying a rail
ticket there are so many options.

OK, I was going to buy the tomtom1 (=A399 version) and then realised it
had no card slot, meaning I could not get anyother maps on it. (will
need Canada in June), so decided to get the go520, as it has a card
slot, and the added bonus of bluetooth handsfree phone. (=A3165ish)

Then I noticed the tomtom1Xl, (around=A3120), but no bluetooth, and I
can live with that. This does appear to have a card slot though.

OK, what I guess i am asking is... If I get either the TT1XL or the
TTgo520, will I be able to add other maps to them simply. (buying the
card and installing I'm guessing), or have i missed the whole point..?

Are there any other significant differences between the two other than
the bluetooth..?

thanks, and hope someone can help.

Charlie.

I have the XL and it has a card slot so I assume I can add maps easily
later. The Go adds the hands free, also features like mp3 player and
audio books from Audible (not sure if that's on all of the Go range)
and therefore headphone output. I'm not sure if the FM transmitter is
an external feature or part of it. Some of the Gos do things like voice
recognition which seems nice.

I read somewhere that the Go has more battery life, though even at 4
hours I wouldn't take it hiking.

The 1XL does have bluetooth, but only for accessing plus services as far
as I can see. Santa brought mine so I'm still a newbie with it.

It is annoying though that the device is capable of doing so much more
if there were more software available for it (MP3 player, photo gallery
etc). It's a shame the open tom project seems in its infancy.

A significant benefit of that model, it seems to me, is the "Map
Share" feature, allowing you to update your map, and accept (or not)
other people's updates. My Tom-Tom One, Europe, doesn't have it.
Damn.

My Europe map is version 675, which I think is by Tele Atlas, July
'07, which I think is still Tom Tom's latest version. I have come
across several bits of road changed rather before that, which weren't
noted on the map. It would be nice to be able to modify my map, and
send the modifications in to Tom Tom, but not being equipped with Map
Share, I can't
