I've downloaded the free SMC contour sets from
http://www.smc.org.uk/contour_maps2.htm

The contour detail has transferred to a Vista Cx without any problem,
but the trig and summit information does not appear - can anyone
enlighten me as to how to make it show up properly?

Thanks

Bernie

I had a similar problem.

This is the reply that I had from the GeoX Forum.

The summit names (and the trigpoints, place names, coastline etc) are on
separate (transparent) map tiles to the contours.
So you have to select these as well to load onto the GPSr.

If you use the map tool to draw a box for the area you want, it should
select all of the necessary map tiles.
After selecting them, check the Map tab in the sidebar, it should list
the contour files (named N55W004 etc), and the Summits, Coasts files
etc.

It worked.

If its not the suggestion Alan made, then its on the "Setup Map" control.

From the map view on the GPS, get the menu (lower left button), then "setup
map". third tab along is "points", and the top item is "map points". Change
this from "auto" to whatever range you would like to have the trigs/summits
appear (eg. 3km, or something of that order).

I think that the Cx behaves a little differently to the previous
Vista/Legend C models in this area. I don't recall having to set the view
distance for the trigs/summits when I had a "C" model. I do have to do it
for the Cx. I'm unable to check this hypothesis as I don't have a "C"
anymore, just the Vista Cx.

I've been unable to specify the viewing range for POI (summits, hill names,
etc) on maps I've written myself for viewing on the Vista Cx. I am
convinced this used to work fine on the Vista C. As far as I can tell, the
"Countours" data set is using the same settings for cGPSMapper as I am
using. So, I have resorted to the above fix.

Alan/Nigel,

Map point settings appear correct, so I've ruled that out.

The list of contour maps in the left-hand panel on Mapsource are only
identified by their geographical name (e.g. Kilmarnock Contours v2) not
by the file name originally given by the SMC. Trig and summit info does
appear on the Mapsource screen, but nothing related appears in the maps
panels. I know that Mapsource has been updated several times, which
might be making it harder (for the uninitiated) to get the data across.

Many thanks for your help folks. I let you know if I solve it.

Regards,

Bernie

Scroll out in MapSource, so that you can see the whole country. Use the map
selection tool, and carefully look at the large rectangles which almost
surround Britain. You'll find there are three (others in Ireland), nested
within each other. One is "UK Summits", one is "Names" and one is "UK Trig
Points". You need to select each (all) of them before uploading. You get
the points data for the whole country, not just the region with the contour
lines.

The down-side is that the entire map area goes pink, so its hard to identify
the map area tiles (with the contour lines) you are also selecting. So, I
tend to select the map areas first, then make sure I add the three extra
files (and/or the appropriate Irish ones).
