I have recently purchased a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSX. I have the Europe City
Navigator maps.

I can use Mapsource to create a route. I can then download it to the
60csx. When I navigate the route on the 60csx it recalculates it and the
route changes.

The routing settings on Mapsource seem to be different to those on the
device. They don't even ask the same questions. So the routes the two
generate are slightly different. I've tried changing settings but can't
get them to pick the same exact route - I'm looking at routes in the
country down B-roads.

What is the point of being able to generate route in Mapsource if you
can't load them to the device!? Is there a way to set the two up the
same?

I want to look at a route in Mapsource on a big screen, get a general
idea of which way it is going. Then use the device in the car and expect
to go the same way. Perhaps that is unreasonable?

I found the same thing so now I let mapsource on the computer do the route
then overwrite it with waypoints changing the route if I think a better way
is possible. I then upload to 60 csx and the same route is usually
duplicated.

Terry's solution is the only one I have found. That has a snag though.
If you are on your way to waypoint X lose the path, then get back onto
the route you want after waypoint X the 60csx keeps wanting you to
return to get to waypoint X. That can be a blasted nuisance!

Fooled me too. The secret is the 'auto' in 'autorouting. The 60CS
calculates according to the settings in its internal 'route options'
setup. Eg you might be a lorry or a walker, and want to avoid toll
roads, etc. So it's hardly surprising if it takes a different route
from Mapsource unless you make sure all the settings are the same..

I think it may also be using a different program - the 'routing'
options on my 60C are not exactly the same as in Mapsource.

When driving, once you've left the original route, it recalculates
based on where you are at that moment, so once again the results might
be different. You'd be a bit peeved if it didn't !

I have a different Garmin model to you but I had a similar problem.

In amongst all the menu options I found 'On road' which autorouted and 'Off
road' which allowed me to use my own routes and waypoints etc.

Perhaps you can find something similar on yours?

Paul.
