I know it's possible to input a start and finish point by postcode.
However, we often go to nature reserves and (group) country walks
which may start in the middle of nowhere. Both, by the very nature of
things, don't have a postcode. I get around this (using Autoroute) by
dragging the finish point to the right place by reference to either a
rough map (nature reserves), National grid reference or description.
The automatically re-drawn route is sometimes quite different when a
motorway junction is changed because we want the other end of a long
country road.

To make it really worthwhile getting a satnav, I would like to be able
to reposition the finish point. Can this be done? If so what one
would you recommend?

Thanks.

I'm not sure whether I'm understanding you correctly, but on any of the
Tomtom devices - and probably others - you can browse the map, position the
cursor at any chosen point, create either a POI or Favourite at the cursor
position, and then use that as your destination.

The only proviso is that it will only navigate via roads it knows about -
and not off-road. If your specified destination is not on a road it will
take you to the nearest place which is - which may or may not be useful
because it could, for example, be on the wrong side of a lake or river!
