Weighing it all up, I reckon that you may as well go for the TomTom and a set of
detailed paper maps/atlases.
I had thought about a PDA with 4 inch screen and using Memeory Map and obtaining
the appropriate s/w maps
but it would probably be a bit of a faff in this case.
d At least with TT you can immediately see where you are (if it doesn't give all
the detail you need at the time)
and then look for that on the paper map.
My wife got on with TT from day one (TT One). But I would pay more for the
largest/wide screen in the TT One range -
I have one now in my company van and the text is just that much bigger for my
failing eyes.
Don't bother with the traffic warning extra - impossible to make out the
graphics and not particularly accurate.
Simple, cheap(er) and highly tailored to your itinerary!
