Your AutoRoute 2007 will not work with any boad rate other than 4800. If
your GPS receiver doesn't include a utility software to change the default
baun rate, you may use GpsGate

The GPS itself is a 38400 baud device, but there is a utility that comes
with the GPS dongle (MiniCDU) that allows you to change the baud rate.

Have you clicked the 'Connect' icon in the top left hand corner of
miniCDU?

Yes, and afterwards in the bottom left corner it says Connected COM (X)
xxxxxx baud. But nothing results, no data.

How obvious is the operating LED - I've read that it is hard to see in
daylight. But I can't see anything in darkness either.

Returned it to the shop and now have one that works.
