I use a Legend HCx along with memory map software. I've recently
noticed a problem in the numbering of waypoints, which appears to be
caused by the Legend not talking to MM correctly.
Put simply if I send a route to my Legend, then alter the route by
adding extra waypoints then the numbering on my GPS varies from the
numbers shown on the PC screen.
If I create a route on MM, say waypoints 1-7, there are no problems.
Names on map display on screen for these waypoints are shown as
WP0001
- WP0007.
In Waypoint Properties names of each waypoint are shown as WP0001 -
WP0007, which is fine. However box "Name on GPS" is blank for all
waypoints.
When route has been sent to GPS then the box "Name on GPS" becomes
filled in with the appropriate waypoint name/number. Waypoints show
on
GPS in correct sequence, WP0001 - WP0007, which is fine and allows
navigation.
However......
If the route is amended subsequent to the route being sent to GPS
then
problems occur.
If I add a new waypoint after say WP0003 this originally is shown as
being WP0008. The "Name on GPS" box is again blank. "Name on GPS" for
the waypoints WP0004 - WP0007 remain as they became labelled after
the
initial transfer to GPS. Then Operation > Renumber Waypoints converts
the new WP0008 into WP0004 and is shown on the map display as such,
but there is no "Name on GPS" shown. Original WP0004, now WP0005
still
shows "Name on GPS" as WP0004, the new WP0006 shows as WP0005 etc.
If the amended route is sent to GPS changes again take place on the
map. The new WP0004 shows on GPS unit, and in the Waypoint Properties
as "Name on GPS" WP0004. BUT, the old WP0004, now WP0005 on map
display shows on GPS and on the "Name on GPS" as WP5. (Note the
different numbering system) The new WP0006 (Original WP0005) shows on
map display as WP0006, but on GPS, and in Waypoint Properties the
"Name on GPS" remains as WP0005.
If more than one new waypoint is added then the problems multiply,
especially if new waypoints are added at different parts of the
route.
The names of the waypoints shown on GPS eventually bear no
resemblance to the names shown on the map display. A mixture of
waypoint numbers of the type WP000X or WPX appear on the GPS screen
and in the "Name on GPS" box in Waypoint Properties.
It appears that in some way the waypoint numbering/amending function
has decided to stop working. The only way to get waypoint numbers on
GPS in consecutive order is to manually renumber them,
which with a route containing many waypoints is time consuming, and
self defeating.
I've looked at the downloads section but cannot see an obvious fix
for
this. Is this something that you have seen before, and is there a
cure? It cannot be just my system; I have tried it on an
unconnected machine with a different GPS and the same problem occurs.
I suspect it is probably a Garmin fault, but I'm bang up to date with
updates to the unit.
I've written to both Garmin and MM but MM won't reply, presumably
they
don't have an answer. All garmin will say is that a GPS should only
be
used as a recreational tool, which isn't really the point.
Has anyone else seen this, and if so is there an answer? At the
moment
the only way to amend a route that has been sent from MM toGPS unit
is
to start again from scratch - not the most ideal solution.
