I have criticised tomtom in the past but I want to congratulate them
on a great initiative with Map Share. I like the idea of being able
to correct map errors. Being able to download corrections made by
others (and choose only those that have been verified) is a great idea
and should help to sort out some of the issues that have taken until
the next map update to resolve in the past.
No doubt the the group philosophers who argued that there was no such
thing as an up-to-date map and therefore no point in updating any map
will opt out, leaving those of us who want the map to be as accurate
as possible to participate in the service.
Thanks for your kind remarks.
I have already tested Map Share features of TomTom GO navigation.
Unfortunately, what you call map error correction is only part of Map
Share.
Add new street option is to complicated in use and operation and
update is not done on-the-fly,
subject to certificxation by TomTom's Map Share team.
It takes 10 clicks to enter a new street and only straight line
segments can be entered once a time.
So I am developing a new interface to Map Share and add new street
features, giving intuitive way of updating street maps on-the-fly.
Giving a driver a freedom to not share his private updates to street
maps , i.e. to add new streets on his/her won for private use only.

I have just sold a TomTom 520. It was the third TomTom I have tried and
sold.
First two I sold because the software wouldn't let me set the zoom level. I
sold the latest 520 because the 3d maps are still absolutely atrocious. Just
a couple of clicks zooming out and all the detail disappears!
I tried a Garmin Nuvi before the 520 and I regret giving it up. On that unit
I could zoom out and still see street level detail for a whole town on the
screen!

Depends what you are looking for. I have never seen any need to zoom
a map. All I want is dorrections at each decision point (eg, cross
roads, roundabout, exit etc) and a schematic representation is fine
for that purpose.
If I were you I would do a bit more research before spending money!

.. or buy mail order, you then have 7 working days to send it back
under the distance selling regulations.
