Maplin have it for £149.99 but is it a good GPS unit ?

Worth the money or should I look elsewhere

Great little unit well worth the money and will do as good a job as
any others I have tried,and I also have an over priced TomTom :)

Yes you can get poi's etc.

No you don't need all the bells and whistles either :)

What is the screen size like compared to the TT?

A LOT Smaller than the TT and Navman iCNs (I3 is 1.7" x 1.3").
Also, Tescos Extra Stores have the Navman iCN 510 currently at
£156 which is excellent value. As with all technology the longer
you can wait the cheaper it's going to get.
