Some garmin outdoor units offer link to heart-rate monitors.
does anybody know if they only link to garmin HRM's, or to any of the
usual brands like polar ?

The Forerunner 305 & Edge 305 uses a digital link (ANT+ I think) between
the chest strap and the watch. I'm pretty sure that will not work with
anything other than Garmins. The new Forerunner 405 probably uses the
same system but I can't be sure. I don't what the older Forerunner HRM
unit (301 I think) used but Garmin highlights the digital nature for the
305 so I suspect it isn't digital.

I wasn't particularly trying to do anything ;-)
I just wondered IF i found my cheapo Lidl HRM which works with all the
Polar and LifeFitness kit in the gym, it would work with my garmin
colorado.
and having found it, the answer appears to be no....
