I've gotten used to the peculiarities of the Microsoft and Navigon on my
PDA/GPS and put lots of other software on it (such as RSPB Birds).

But I went and accidentally [mal]adjusted the car power supply to 12V amd
now it no longer switches on or shows any signs of life.

Has anyone any experience of this? Is it likely to be resurrectable? (I
wouldn't really need the data; much it is on the SD card which is OK.)

The maker (F-J) will take a look for £30+ but aren't letting on if they know
if they can do anything...

Mike.

Thanks Darren, I wondered if you had seen this before.

"How" is easy: I was using an adjustable power supply, as I said, and moved
the slider switch. "Why" is slightly more interesting: the alternative plug
arrangement takes up less room because it is a right-angle plug and does not
intercept the dashboard. I bought an alternative cigar lighter supply but it
was faulty and had a coiled cable which would make it useless in the car. I
hadn't got around to fixing the one-piece plug to a non-adjustable 5V
supply... (The Fujitsu supplies have two-piece plugs which take up a lot of
room and are fragile because of the leverage.)

Since I work for a Fujitsu offshoot I got the Loox N500 on a company deal
which I have seen only one supplier match since. Pending the repair estimate
I am studying what alternatives are available now that Looxes are withdrawn.

Cheers, Mike.

Hi Mike,

I know this sounds like asking for someone's shoes after they've died
but I would love to own the UK/Europe maps for the Loox. I have the
N100 and figure they should work (shouldn't they?)

I'd be prepared to pay something for them.

Please let me know.

Best regards,

Paul

Hi Paul, the software is Navigon and I expect to be able to install it on
any PPC/GPS I buy - if I get one without software. The maps won't work
standalone, so don't hold your breath...

Cheers, Mike.
