I've got my eye on an eTrex H as a present for a friend who is getting
into geocaching. I own an eTrex Legend which I'm very happy with but
I recognise that the Legend maps are just about useless. The "H"
seems to be very similar to the Legend in function but without the
maps (no loss there then) but one thing I'd like to be sure of before
purchase is that it is possible to type a waypoint directly into the
unit (however painfully). I've downloaded the manual from Garmin and
it says you can edit a waypoint but doesn't say how and the unit lacks
the little stick which the Legend uses to navigate the text screen.
Anyone know for sure?
(Before lots of people tell me to link to a computer and download the
waypoints, yes but that's no good for offset and puzzle caches where
the numbers aren't known until you're in the field (sometimes
literally)).
It's a bit of a pain, but you can do it by recording a waypoint first
and then editing the co-ordinates. I've just done this and can confirm
that it works.
Regards,
Nick H.
