My new Colorado works fine with Duracell, but when I install my GP2500 1.2v
2450mAh batteries there is no response at all - any idea why

(they are charged and work in other kit)

They are NiMH's by the way

Alkaline 1.5V
NiMH 1.2V

There's a clue.

how does that help ?
Garmin recommend NiMH's - all reachargeable NiMH battereis that I have seen
are 1.2v. Are you saying they are recommending something that is not
compatible with the product ?

Check the physical dimensions of the NiMH cells, including the +VE
terminal size. Sometime they vary a bit & I have seen situations where the
batteries don't make proper contact.

FWIW, I use GP Batteries 2000mAh NiMH in my Garmin eTrex Vista C with no
problems.
