I have a GPS/PDA with TomTom Navigator v6. Some of the icons to POIs I have
downloaded were indistinct so I changed/redesigned the icons. However, this
works for downloaded POIs (as opposed to the embedded ones) that provide a
file with a bmp extension - which in my experience is all of them. I used
the PAINT prog in Windows and with the PDA sync'd Opened the POI bmp file on
the SD card in the country file. Then custom Zoom it to 800% and use the
drawing tools in paint to blank and draw your masterpiece. Reduce it back to
normal and save it (overwrite the file) back to the PDA. Dont know much
about other PDAs mobiles etc but I assume as long as there is a icon
readable file like bmp you can change and overwrite it. Something to do on
a wet Sunday afternoon ?

Open the "Icon" in Windows Paint.
Block out the bits you don't want with a colour of your choice.
Redesign as required.
Save back to where it came from
