My TomTom One XL's in-car charger has failed. The one I use in the house
still works fine, but the unit conks out on long journeys, even minimising
current drain by switching off the voice.

Using the car's socket as a phone charger still works and the TomTom's
charger light (at the dashboard end) lights up ok so I presume it's a break
inside the cable.

The cable seems to have stiffened quite a bit with the cold, it being left
in the car since November last year.

Is this a common failure, and should I be looking for a particular brand for
a replacement?

TIA.

TomTom chargers have a micr blade fuse in the plug, have you checked this?

No, but I will do that tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Would that not stop the indicator light (being on the supply side)? On the
other hand the strain relief on the output cable may be inadequate, leading
to a break at the circuit board inside.

I haven't checked the fuse in the plug yet this morning, but the indicator
light on the cable at the car end is illuminated, which is what makes me
suspect the cable.
