I like the spec of the 740 go live, but feel the live part (subscription) is
not for me. Is there a cheaper or earlier model with the same spec, but
without the live for Europe
Thanks

Yes, but a simple answer to a different question.

It is a disgrace that, along with the proliferation of products, TomTom has
stopped offering comparisons between the features of their models. I would
have bought a replacement TomTom long ago if they had maintained the kind
of comparative features chart that they used to offer. But now I can't
figure which is least expensive model that meets all of my needs and with
no unwanted and wasted features, just like the OP was asking.

You've also got to factor in which value added service they may be
withdrawing without any justifiable reason.
