I got a XL 340 the other day and am no happy with the display.
My son has an older TomTom and I can see his screen real well, but
when it's sunny outside and the TomTom is on the windshield I have to
take my sun glasses off, and almost have to cover the top, to block
the sun, so I can get a good image.
Is this comm of all the new TomTom's or just this model?

Have you adjusted the Brightness function (if there is one on a Xl340) ?

It may help if you get a good quality screen protector as well, as
these can cut down on the reflection.

The brightness is up all the way.

I did find a custom display, on the TomTom site, that has colors I can
see better in the sun.
I also mounted the GPS on the dash by the radio where the sun is not
as bright and it helped.

All-in-all I'm not real happy with this device but will learn to live
with it for now.

There are a number of commercial glare-stoppers on the market. The one
I have fits over and around my TT 530 and does quite a good job except
when the sun is low and behind me.
