FYi...
Well yesterday I ran the update via Home2 on my GO720 and now it wont
turn on.
It was working fine until then, I switched it on, the program detected
it as usual and ran the update, I then get a message saying that the
device will now be restarted as part of the update process, well it
turned it off but not back on, I waited 15 minutes, there was no
activity anywhere so I tried to turn it on myself,...no go so I goes to
the FAQ's,....nothing there, tried a reset, still no go, left it on
charge overnight and this morning still no go.
I e-mailed support yesterday but haven't as yet received a fix, I think
I will give them a ring today sometime, thank goodness it is still in
warranty by one month.

FYi.
Well, just tried the reset again for the umteenth time and low and
behold the bloody thing turned on and is working fine, what a
frustration device this is.

Question: has anyone ever found a reason why they behave like this.

Is it possible you are in a different time zone to TT, so the update
might have set your device to the "wrong" date, ie one that didn't match
the internal clock until a few hours later?

I had a similar problem- it came on but was unresponsive and wouldn't connect
to my mac. I tried resetting to no avail. Eventually I took a risk- deleted
the tomtom software. It redownloaded and restored on next connecting and all
is OK. This time I let it go through a long period of housekeeping before
trying to disconnect itself.

I had a similar problem with 130S. When it's working well, backup using
windows explorer (just drag and drop to a folder). Do this when HOME
program is not running. Keep this for an emergency recovery. You can
still do backup and restore using home, just don't disturb the good copy
you made above.
The advantage of using home for backup and recovery (when recovery
works) is home will only update changed or new files so it's normally
faster.
It's not unusual for the unit to take it's time to turn on after using
home. I think you'll find it's finding the satellites first. After that
it will turn on then search for satellites. When you are running home,
always use the menu item to disconnect and only do so when prompted to
do so. If not using home, use the windows taskbar to safely remove.

On the 103S, after about two weeks of non use it won't turn on until
unit is plugged in to a power source or recharged. The first time I turn
it on after this it takes a long time to respond, then comes up with a
nag screen. Not sure if other models self-discharge like this.
