Thinking of updating the W.Europe map in my XL One with the £39.95
offer.
According to TomTom Home, the map on offer is 850.2783 (whereas the
one I have is 710.1561.1561) - just under 1GB.
Anyone know if the 850.2783 version is the latest (or are they trying
to sell off old stock)?

It is the latest. Released in the last month or so.

The maps are downloaded and a wholly owned TomTom subsidiary makes the maps
and owns the copyrights, so there is no such thing as a stock of old maps.
