It is a one-time download so do it whilst the TT is fully charged and on the

cradle (my case) or connected to a charger and don't touch anything (unless
the install process asks) until the install is complete. Then back up
entire TTto PC using Windows Explorer.
First thank you to all who have helped me with this.
Maurice
Yes That is why I wanted a download of the map and not have to get it
downloaded to my unit.
I think it is a bit mean of TomTom not to let you have it again if you
lose it. After all you have paid for it.
Arrrrr well will have to make certain I get it all backed up this
time and to a dvd.

Well, once installed to the unit then backed up to pc, I can then
reload the maps from pc to the tomtom
Thats how I swapped the maps on my 930 from internal memory to SD card
& they now run fine from card

Ah, yes. But can you share a backup with a buddy that has a similar tomtom?
I suspect not. And even if you were able to, I believe that there is
something in it that contains serial number and gives traceability (read
'liability') back to you.
Hey, I'm an engineer and we always try to exploit weakness in any system -
if only to patch security holes ;) I just haven't had any time to futz with
the gps. Day job is way too demanding.

very much doubt it, the original download & install to the tomtom
locks the map to that unit :)
