TomTom does recalculate routes, but when it's preference setting - fastest
journey time or shortest distance - requires a U-turn then that's what it
will demand.

AFAIK all models use the same navigation engine although later versions of
the software may not always be released to update all the older models.

I've never ever seen my TomTom 710 request a U turn
except where I have deliberately ignored it and gone past
the turnoff it has advised, usually when doing a yard sale run
and I havent bothered to reset the next waypoint on the TomTom
because I know how to get to a particular waypoint myself.

And where the route isnt what I would normally use myself, thats
usually due to local knowledge that a particular route is better
because there is less traffic on that route, something that isnt
even possible for the previous engine to know anything about.

Even with the latest engine that does allow users to enter the
actual times taken over particular routes, its unlikely that there
are many in my 20K town that will bother to do that in my town.

Amazing that TomTom only requests "Turn Around When Possible" after an
intentional detour and not inadvertent ones. Maybe some new proprietary
ESP chip is at work :-)

Not amazing at all. The routing function isnt stupid enough to route a route
like that.

You'll end up completely blind if you dont watch out.
