I updated my XL 0ne for the first time then had a play with it and it seems
I've screwed it up.
Quite a few of the feature icons are visible but non functioning and it
doesn't 'remember' my preferences (I can't turn the tips feature off for
instance). I'd like to set it back to how it was when it was new, anyone
know how to do it? I have tried factory default setting but it's still not
right.

Many thanks

Jb

Only if you made a backup prior to update. You don't need to make a
backup prior to every update, but you do need something you can fall
back on. If you don't have a backup, contact TomTom support to see if
they can help.

Thanks for that. I did make a backup but things like my POI still don't work
correctly. I asked here because the TT support is sooo.
Thanks anyway

When I had a problem, restoring from my backup using Home didn't solve
the problem. Home only moves changed files.
You might want to make a 2nd backup using windows to copy the TomTom to
HD in case the next step doesn't work.
You might also want to download a free program called WinMerge, it's a
great little utility for comparing/synchronizing directories. Spend a
few minutes familiarizing yourself with the program then compare what is
on your original backup with what is on the Tomtom.
In my case, on recommendation of TomTom support, I deleted the contents
of TomTom and restored from my original backup. Note: this does carry
some degree of risk. In my case, the problem was more severe than yours,
I couldn't get past the splash screen, so I didn't have much to lose.
Since your unit is basically working, you might want to persevere a
little longer with TomTom support. Do give WinMerge a try, this might
tell you what files fail to match. Good luck.

Hi Jb.
Why do you mean exactly by "my POI still don't work correctly" ?
Tip #1 : if you want a REAL backup, avoid performing it via Home but use
Windows Explorer (copy/paste) instead.
Tip #2 : if you're really stuck with a TT device, you might post to either
(or both) of this 2 great forums : gpsunderground
