On the TT, I have a folder called 'Australia' with about 93.5Mb of
files, and a folder called 'maps' which contains a single file,
Australia.tlv, and also noticed a file in the root TT directory,
CurrentMap.dat.
This is what lead me to believe I need to copy more than just one folder
to swap maps. Maybe I'm better off to just copy -everything- to an Oz
folder on the thumbdrive, restore the USA map, and repeat, just to make
sure...
I've opened the Australia map on the TT to verify it worked before
backing up. So at this point, I can treat the TT as just another thumb
drive, right?
Sadly, not enough disk space for both maps... My next GPS will have an
SD slot!

Yes, from your PC, your TT is another thumb drive, too : TT device is
running Linux OS but Windows can access it without concerns like any USB
memory device ...
Generally speaking, a tlv file for TT is kind of a contextual file. Then I
would suggest to backup both the 'maps' and the 'Australia' folder.
You definitively don't need to backup the file named CurrentMap.dat : it
contains the pathname for your map and if (at startup) TT does not find it
(the map), it ask you to select another, then updates this file.

Jon, did you buy your map from the tomtom.com web site, or via TomTom Home?
If from the web site, what is the mechanism by which the map gets downloaded
and then installed in your TT? Does it somehow have to involve TomTom Home?

I bought and downloaded through TT Home. Not sure how it would work if
purchased directly from the website.

Backed up my Australia map the other day, but didn't get around to
restoring my USA map until today. Using TT Home, deleted the Australia
map, then went to restore. Hmm, no option for choosing maps. Yup, it
restores the Australia map. I've tried several times, cannot find any
way to select what to restore. Needless to say, I'm leaving in the
morning for a trip where I was counting on having the USA map.
I see the original USA map on the HD, in ZIP format. I'm thinking I can
just unzip to my thumbdrive in the folder created for the USA map, and
do the copy thing myself. Would this be correct?
Thanks,
Jon
