Hi to all,
anybody able to explain how to convert jpg map to vector format.I'm trying
to use scanned maps in my own tracking software application.
Thanks in advance

Some vector map data here:
http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/seg/cdroms/ged_iib/datasets/b14/mw.htm
maybe useful
1. Read my article (see below) on vector vs. raster maps.
2. avoid jpg - it is a photograph format, not a graphic format. It tends
to blue edges of lines making roads difficult to discern. It will also
add information to large areas of the same color leading to problems of
misinterpretation.
Now, a little more data
1. A raster image is not intelligent. It cannot read a word or recognize
a road. Everything on the image is just colored pixels.
2. To convert this to vector you need to calibrate the image by relating
pixel coordinates to true distances (linear or angular)
3. you need to recognize the text and roads yourself somehow. There are
programs that try to find roads and text in images with varying degrees
of success. Even if you start with such a program expect to do a lot of
hand editing of the data.
4. One way to convert is to display the image and then trace the roads.
Use the tracings to develop a vector map. Software can help here as well.
