u-blox unveils GPS evaluation and visualization tool 'u-center mobile'
Thalwil, Switzerland -- August 24, 2006 -- u-blox today announced the
introduction of u-center mobile, a GPS evaluation and visualization tool
for Windows Mobile-based Pocket PC handheld devices such as PDAs.
u-center mobile is the handheld version of u-center, u-blox' PC-based
GPS evaluation software. Launched in 2001, u-center has become renowned
throughout the industry for its powerful controls, visualization and
analysis features. u-center mobile has now been developed to bring the
same functionality to handheld devices such as PDAs, mobile phones and
other consumer and professional GPS-enabled handheld devices.
u-center mobile provides satellite status and positioning information,
enables 2D representations of any GPS parameter in real-time and offers
extensive configuration options. Viewing functions have been
specifically adapted for the limited screen resolution of handhelds.
Users can load digital maps calibrated with u-center to view static
positions or itineraries. The system has a data recorder with playback
functionality that enables GPS data logging. Log files created with
u-center-mobile are compatible with u-center, giving users the option to
analyze log files from their PC, handheld, or both.
"u-center mobile enables GPS testing on-the-go", explains the creator of
the tool, Michael Ammann, Research and Development GNSS Software. "This
powerful tool will become an indispensable companion for developers of
GPS-enabled handheld devices, who will be able to test GPS performance
directly on the device that they are designing. All other GPS product
developers will also benefit, as they will be able to connect their GPS
applications to any mobile device with u-center mobile installed and use
its powerful GPS evaluation features from anywhere."
The tool's built-in AssistNow™ Client software enables access to u-blox'
AssistNow A-GPS service framework, which slashes Time To First Fix
(TTFF) down to seconds and enables satellite acquisition even under
difficult signal conditions.
u-center mobile supports various interfaces such as Bluetooth, USB,
UART, Compact Flash and Secure Digital I/O interfaces and, most
important, tightly coupled GPS integration. You can download u-center

Thanks Sam,
I have been using a copy of this program for a couple of weeks now
(pre-announcement version) and it works well. It's main use to to
evaluate and control U-Blox receivers. It has special features designed
specifically for the new Antaris chipset. It can track more than 12
channels. It does most of the things that the pc version of the tool does.
It does, however, work with other brands of GPS units in NMEA mode. It
attempts to gather a plethoria of statistics about GPS operation.
