hi all,
i am looking for any anecdotal recommendations on a sub $500 automobile
GPS. the Garmin Streetpilot C530 or Magellan Roadmate 3050T seem to
strike a good compromise between features and price. i have perused the
newsgroups and done some online research, so i am basically just asking
if anybody has a unit that they really like (or conversely, wish they
hadn't bought).
thanks!
alex

I like the C340, which I bought, or the C550, which may be out of your
price rangs. They speak the street names which is benefitial when
driving.

I purchased a Mio Digiwalker 310x and took it for one auto and one
motorcycle ride, just to test it before wrapping it up a present.
$200 or so at Staples, Frys, and a few other places in limited
quantities. Seems to work pretty well -- had all the back roads
I tried it on, navigates, talks, locates itself in just a few
seconds after a cold start.

Mio 310x is interesting -- $150 [with rebate] on black friday, $200 [no
rebate] a few times since. USA maps + POI pre-loaded, voice routing, mp3
player, SD slot, antenna doesn't need to be flipped up, nice car mount, car
and ac chargers. Freeware poi editor links with Google earth, freeware
skins offer additional functionality, maps on flash, track export to Google
earth, etc.
