Was wondering if anyone has tried this - I am going to be using my
eTrex Legend for a trip on my motorcycle - I have uploaded the maps
from Metroguide NA for the areas around the waypoints I will be
traveling to, but I was wondering if I use the autorouting in
Metroguide, will it fill in the routing on the basemap where I do not
have the Metroguide maps loaded, or I am just to go without the GPS
until I am near my waypoint (where the maps are loaded?) For the
record, the detail maps that I have loaded around the waypoints have
used up pretty much all 8meg of the memory.
Thanks in advance

I'm not sure from the above exactly how you're expecting the routing to
work.
If this is a regular Legend (not a LegendC), then it doesn't support
auto-routing itself. [And even for the LegendC, MetroGuide-NA doesn't
let you transfer the necessary data to support auto-routing - you'd need
CitySelect instead.]
So what you can do is let MG-NA figure out a route for you on your PC.
This route will consist of a set of points where you need to turn from
one street to another. Since it's being generated on your PC this route
is not limited in any way by the maps that you happen to have loaded in
the Legend. Once you transfer the route to your Legend, the Legend will
see the route strictly as the ordered series of points and will assume
you're going on straight lines between them; i.e. the route and any maps
on the Legend are entirely independent of each other.
So as you travel, the Legend will tell you the direction and direct-line
distance to the next point on the route. Usually this work out fine -
you just continue driving on the current road and sometimes glance at
the Legend to see when you start getting close to the next turn. Then
when you're close you can check to see which way you'll need to turn and
the arrow & distance will switch to the next point in the route.
But remember that the route and the displayed map are separate and don't
expect the route line to follow the curves in the road.
