Hi,

I almost decide to go get a Garmin 60csx. However, I have the concern
that Garmin doesn't seem to have the 'detailed' maps for the other
regions of the world avaialble(except for US and Europe). I wonder if
this will be a problem?

I mean if I go for a PDA based version, it seems that I have lot of
other choices For example, if I plan to go trekking in India or Nepal.
there's the map from Fugawi
(http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk/fugawi-india-and-nepal-map-data-description.html?PHPSESSID=66b201e5bccee097e63f05a087d80df4 ).
Similar, there are other places where you can get maps for for China,
Japan, and etc.

I really like the rugged built dedicated GPSs, but it seems that the
choices on the maps are more limited? Or is there a way to get around
it like loading thirdy-party map onto them?

Thanks.

Wow, that Fugawi map is pretty expensive. And at 1:500 000, I'm not
convinced it'd be so useful for trekking.

Anyway, a PDA is much less likely to withstand the sort of treatment it
would get whilst hiking. I tried OziExplorer-CE on an Ipaq, and it's an
excellent piece of software for city use. But pretty quickly I went
back to carrying paper maps and my Garmin Vista in the mountains. Not
least because there nowhere to recharge an Ipaq at 18 thousand feet in
the Himalaya!
