After two bloody weeks of support page messages and mind numbing
procedures from TomTom, they finally suggested I call them on a support
line.
Then with a nice lady on the other end worked through it. Turns out
they had made the wrong file as available for my TomTom so it never
downloaded. IOW: it was their database system at fault.
The lady corrected it and the file downloaded.
Finally, it is up to date and it confirms local highway changes in the
area. The update "timed-out" in midstream, but recovered when I
restarted the download (at the position that it had broken off - they
might as well automate the recovery).
TomTom really need to sharpen their system up, however. This includes
"listening" to customers detailed reports of issues and actually
investigating what is happening so people can get back on the road with
their units. (At one point their procedure has you delete the map from
the unit. (I copied it to an offline disk just in case - but still,
their own procedures have you pretty near bricking the unit).
Resolved. Finally.

speed background switches to red.

residential area) disappear. It did this before but it seems to do it

-North-up seems to be missing. (Or I didn't find it - sometimes I
prefer N-up when in unfamiliar areas)
Remains to be seen if they've solved the "dumbness" of the system
(taking you off a highway to country roads and back to the highway again
for no good reason - time or distance).
