I have an old cigarette lighter adapter that worked with my
45XL. Is it safe to plug it into the newer models, no power
changes, etc.?

Yes, neither of those models needs any voltage regulation in the
external power cable so they just pass the nominal +12 VDC from the
cigarette lighter socket along to the GPS receiver.

It depends which models he's referring to. The Etrex range will be badly
damaged if you shove 12 volts into it. He should be more specific on what
"newer models" means.

I thought the "power adapter for GPS 60 CSx" in the thread title was a
sufficient hint.
And anyone who tried to attach the round connector of the 45XL cable to
an eTrex would quickly discover the incompatibility.

I guess the thread title wasn't sufficient. I usually try to
remember to duplicate that in the message body but forgot.
Anyway, I've already tried it now and it works fine.
FWIW, anyone tempted to purchase the GA 25MCX Low Profile GPS
antenna for use in a car, don't bother. It actually hinders the
reception, and I wasted a few bucks. I can pick up with
accuracy down to about 14 ft inside my house, or in the garage,
and when driving in a car, I get 11 ft, and it locks on almost
instantly. Amazing reception capability.
