Hello, all :)
Name here is Sean
My call is K D 4 A D V
Location is Amelia County, Virginia, North America, USA.
FM17a - for Amateur Radio Grid Square reference.

I would like to know about the MGRS settings with the MGRs-1, MGRS-2 and
MGRS-3.
What does that refer to?

I have used UTM before as a secondary coordinate system.

I may purchase a more better GPS in the future since this has been my first
GPS receiver since the late 90s.

It is a Magellan Tracker (non-color)

Tnx.

Sean

MGRS and UTM are pretty similar, but for nomenclature.

FM17a is Maidenhead, also supported by most GPSRs.

Do Google search on MGRS and see what you come up with.

If your receiver works like my Magellan 315, in MGRS-1 the letter pair
denoting the 100 km MGRS square depends on the datum. For example, the
coordinates of the Washington Monument begin with 18S UJ if the datum
is WGS84, but 18S UU if datum is NAD27. The second letter of the pair
changes by 10 places in the MGRS alphabet (which omits I and O).
MGRS-1 follows the standard MGRS convention.

In MGRS-2 you get a non-standard variant: the letter pair does NOT
depend on the datum.

I have never figured out what MGRS-3 does.
