Was out surveying today, deleting a waypoint from the active route (to
de-clutter the screen, it was one I'd already passed) when the unit
locked up solid showing the waypoint list. Wouldn't even power off.

Pulled the battery, only to have it lock up (every time) on the 'welcome
screen' display.

When i got home tried a USB connection to the computer - no joy there (I
guess the unit wasn't even getting far enough into power on to handle
the USB interface).

Tried a 'master reset' (page/enter and power on, iirc) and it locked up
at the 'clear user data, NO/YES' screen (I was trying for yes!). Tried
again, and second time it worked. I can only assume that a) deleting a
waypoint got the unit memory in a really bad knot somehow, and b) this
was causing the CPU to start looping almost before the unit was powered
on (sometimes it got as far as displaying the loaded maps copyright
info, mostly it didn't even get that far).

Needless to say I lost 6 hours of survey data, but at least the unit now
works again. Colour me not very impressed. Firmware version 3.00/2.70.
Anyone else (ever) seen this level of lock up (i.e. one that pulling the
batteries won't fix)??

Low humidity in your area?
Maybe a static related CPU lock?

Not in England no .. lemme see .. about 60% RH today. And if it was
static damage, that generally doesn't go away. I still figure it's a
data related software lockup .. corrupted save area for waypoints or
routes or screwed up stack/heap or something like that.

I occasionally notice ==big= (3-5 second) delays when I delete a
waypoint (which forces a route recalc I guess .. this is navigating
off-road mind), but 'infinite' is a new take on 'big'.

Even after a complete reset, the unit still doesn't see EGNOS satellites
(firmware 3.00/2.70), but I've yet to see anyone who is reporting their
unit does (with GPS firmware version 2.70, in particular).

A fellow from England started a thread yesterday on this subject on the
Groundspeak forum:

http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=140630&pid=2395604&st=0&#entry2395604

Today his most recent message indicates that he has been able to get D's on
his 60CSx, but it looks like he is still getting only marginal performance,
so I'm guessing that there is still an issue with the latest software.
Have you tried going back to 2.60? I noticed on the change history for 2.70
this item: "Add almanac for MSAS"; wonder if this could have anything to do
with your problems with EGNOS?

Good luck
John

It might very well. Looking at the EGNOS website it seems #33 was down
for most of yesterday, and that's the only one I could see from my
'after master reset' testing position. This morning #33 was supposed to
be down, but their website says it isn't (#39 is down instead though).
Arrgh!!
