Anyone know if it is is really worth bothering to upgrade from the
original SPOT to the SPOT2. It just doesn't look like much of an
upgrade to me regarding features. And I hate AAA batteries. However,
I'm willing to listen to a good argument in favor of the new unit.

The AAA batteries which give only 60% of the battery life of the
original SPOTare the only negative

Differences are;
- smaller
- more sensitive GPS receiver
- separate tracking button
- extra custom message button
- easier to understand indicator lights
- 3 x AAA vs 2 x AA batteries

Yes... but seems to be a very big negative... isn't it? :)

I took an original SPOT along on a month-long flying trip to and around
Alaska. I turned it on when we got to the plane each morning, and turned
it off when we locked it up for the evening. It was in the tracking mode
(sending a position report every 10 minutes) whenever it was on. I never
changed the batteries, and it was still going at the end of the trip.
The point is that 60% of the original capacity would still be plenty for me.
