Is anyone here using a Nokia phone and the Ovi maps for turn-by-turn
driving navigation?
I'm having a few problems that may be from my configuration or they may be
inherent in the software.
Anyone?

No real problems so far, except that while in Singapore it started
looking for licenses, even though it is supposed to be free?
I do prefer my Garmin Quest for car use and 76CSx for hiking though!

I had it ask for a license also while in Malaysia. I followed the
instructions through, hoping it might lead to some kind of free
license until it asked me for a credit card number.
Nokia have been widely publicising the fact that Maps are now free, so
I don't know why they are still asking for money.

Thanks Terje.
I've not had any problem with demands for licences or fees, but my E72 may be
newer than your phone. It was launched after the maps went to free and came
with the Ovi Maps factory installed.
I'm well used to TomTom navigation and so my views may be slanted by what I
get with their devices.
On the good side, the Ovi maps have all been of excellent accuracy, the
navigation routing decisions very reasonable and I find their TTS street name
articulation to be superior to that from my TomTom's. I was concerned that
the phone might be too quiet, but that has not been a problem. And lastly, I
love the integration between their Ovi maps web site and the phone, such that
places and routes can be constructed or modified in either place and then
synchronised.
But I also have problems:
1) The navigation does not really support Waypoints. It is possible to add
intermediate points into routes, but instead of silently passing through them
the Nokia device announces these as Stopovers (intermediate destinations).
2) I found no to skip intermediate points or mark them as passed. If I want
to use a route then I found no choice other that to start at its beginning or
to drive (maybe away from my destination) so as to pass its beginning.
3) While in driving mode there is an Options screen that could be useful but
consists of 12 icons on a black background and so I can never figure where to
cursor is to select one of interest. Anyone found a way to change that
appearance?
Update on that one - I found that the top 9 icons can also be selected from
the numbered keys. Are there any other keys to select the bottom row of three
icons (Zoom in, My position and Zoom out)?
4) When one is at or near the destination the navigation simply ends without
any request for confirmation. If I have to pass the destination, maybe
because of some temporary parking obstruction or some other reason, then I am
flying blind. And in central London, trying to get back to a passed
destination through the mess of one-way streets and forbidden turns, can be
very difficult.
Any advice or tips will be welcome.

To the OP, have you downloaded the latest version? Versions before Maps was
free may try to connect to servers for licences and fail, or claim that the
navigation service isn't available in that country (it did that even in the
UK).
