SVN49 L5 function was securing the assigned frequency.
There were originally expecting the first GPS IIF satellite to be
launched before SVN49 has actually launched.
It has a lower power, narrower antenna transmitter.
I wouldn't call its purpose experimenting.
Does that means that even the L5 transponder has been shut down ?
Could they be transmitting a PRN1 L5 only signal (in data less only
mode) ?
Of course, technically, they could shutdown the L5 payload on SVN49.
PRN25 has a normal power, normal beam L5 antenna. That is enough to
secure the L5 assignment. And pretty soon a 2nd IIF bird should be in
orbit.
