Tracegps.com lets you search and share your favorite outdoor trail by
importing and exporting GPS data and Google mapping them. Use it to
send files of your walk, bike ride or running trail or find a new hike
or city tour nearby. More than 400 free trails available in France !

Pity it's only in French, and only covers France. At a very quick
look it's aimed at (very fit !) cyclists. Amusing to note that the
French for 'gps' is 'gps', and FAQ doesn't become QFP (work it out !)
- perhaps the Academie Francaise has given up ?

Still, I like the co-operative idea.

Similar, but with a US focus, are sites like www.trailregistry.com
mainly for hiking trails and www.motionbased.com that's mainly for
fitness activities.

I do believe that MotionBased is second only to Google Earth for the
number of eyeballs looking at downloadable GPS data. I've been trying
to keep up with all the new sites on a list I maintain at:
http://www.travelbygps.com/authoring.php#RecData

The better sites will have a statement regarding the quality of the
data or provide some means of rating. At TravelByGPS.com, downloadable
content is classified Class A data if it was acquired by GPS in the
field and Class B data if it was pulled from a map.

It seems like the number of websites depending on user-contributed data
has really increased lately. Those that last the test of time will
recognize and reward their contributors.

Nice list. A couple sites to consider adding are:
http://www.everytrail.com/
http://www.gpsxchange.com/

Yes, there's certainly no shortage of sites and it would be more useful
if all the user data were concentrated in a smaller number of places.
