I'm a new user of MM. I'm trying to make a map of an area of the
Dolomites for our imminent walking holiday, from a scan of a paper map
I bought. Have closely followed instructions in MM's Help. But program
is not accepting the PNG file I made. Tells me it must be PALETTE
type. Yet I *have* chosen Palette in Options of IrfanView when using
File Save As to save the original JPG.

I posted to MM Support Forum, but answer was "TIFF is simpler." I will
try the alternative TIFF type, but can anyone advise whether the PNG
method does work or not, and perhaps suggest why it fails here please?

You may need to change the color depth of the PNG for it to work in MM.

Thanks both.

Using 8-bit colour as specified. And 'Paltette'. Here's the File Save
screenshot from IrfanView:

The .png file should be created as 4 or 8 bit colour.
