I'm new to the whole GPS thing but I bought a Magellan Explorist XL. I
wanted a good GPS that I could take Quad riding, Boating, hiking, and
also in the car. It seemed like this would be a good unit for these
proposes. But when I go to Magellan's web site and try to purchase
"MapSend Lakes USA" Arizona is missing. Why is this? Also is Garmin a
better choice?

Probably not enough of a market in that area for a 'lake-specific'
mapping product. For all-around use you should get either 3D-Topo or
DirectRoute (or both) depending on whether having contour lines or
automatic road routing is of more importance to you. Although these
won't have quite as much detail on waterways it is still sufficient for
many purposes.

I prefer Garmin for their firmware features and customer support. But
both get their map data from other companies - usually the same ones.
