I have MS Streets and Trips with the GPS locator and am thinking of buying
the Earthmate package at $70 (my cost, about $28 net)
I run S&T off my laptop on real estate hunting adventures and have been
happy with its accuracy throughout the hills of Eastern TN.
But, I would like to be able to do more and have better screen placement
(now the laptop takes up the passenger seat. I would rather have a 10" diag
measure screen that I could place within the driver's line of sight but
still have the program running as it does now on the laptop.
I would like to be able to take a hand-held Garmin GPS out to the larger
properties and calculate the corners and acreage, uploading the data into
the laptop.
If this is NOT the list to ask, please advise.
If you know of a better list for a novice such as I, likewise, advise.

A friend of mine had a Palm with some Real Estate program that syncs with
the secretary's desktop for listings and messages. It has mapping
information for individual parcels from the county.
I thought that an application like that, running on the Garmin iQue would
be a wonderful tool for Real Estate, especially in an area like mine where
there is a lot of acreage, not so much houses with addresses.

EARTHmate with GPS is on sale this week at Best Buy for $70
On an earlier version, they advertised the ability to calculate acreage. But
I already had MS S&T and its GPS version was on sale for $80 at the time.
Now I have a $50 gift certificate to BB and am going to buy Earthmate and
see what its like.
One thing I would like is a small monitor that connects to the 15 pin
monitor out on my Presario and can run off 12VDC so I could use it as a view
screen and mount it in a better location than the passenger seat (where I
hold the laptop en route) for following instructions and referencing the
active map.
Dealing with remote properties in "out of the way" locations is certainly
enhanced by use of GPS. Especially vacant parcels where the average broker
gives sparse directions (almost always absent compass directions) from his
or her office to the property. Imagine if they included GPS Coordinates! an
additional 14 characters and voila, instant directions and aerials!
I understand that MANY property assessors are incorporating GPS Coordinates
into their plat books. Where possible, a REALTOR should be able to get this
information and incorporate it into his listing information.

http://www.gps-poi-us.com/ GPS Babel is a freeware program that converts GPS
data from one format to another. You can download it and run it on almost
any computer, but its command-line interface requires some getting used
to -- so I've created this on-line gateway that lets you access a copy of
gpsbabel running on GPSVisualizer.com. Of course, you can't use this page to
communicate with your GPS receiver -- and a few of GPS Babel's more advanced
options (filters and custom XCSV files) aren't included.
