LightSquared Goes Global; GLONASS, Galileo May Be at Risk, Too
http://www.gpsworld.com/gnss-system/lightsquared-goes-global-glonass-galileo-may-be-risk-too-11822?utm_source=GPS
"Recent events, some of them summarized here, may appear to have dealt
setbacks to LightSquared, the boundless opportunist of wireless
broadband that just happens to interfere with GPS. But the company has
not run out of moves yet. Would you, if you had $20 billion at stake?
The latest gambit, led by lawyers and cloaked in jargon, appears to be
an end-run around the U.S. government to appeal to the International
Telecommunications Union, which has ultimate and international authority
over spectrum. Watch out, GLONASS and Galileo — and U.S. troops
operating in foreign theaters.
"GPS World has received copies of three “fact sheets” authored by two
lawyers and a strategic consultant. The documents are addressed to ITU-R
WP 4C, the International Telecommunications Union Working Party that
handles mobile satellite services (MSS) and radio determination
satellite service (RDSS spectrum) and orbits. One document is titled “
Compatibility between Complimentary Ground Componenet in the 1525–1559
Mhz and 1626.5–1660.5 Mhz Bands and Other Service.” All three documents
appear to be cover sheets for longer treatises, and their language and
citations are not entirely clear to me, as my legal and regulatory
background leaves something to be desired".

While Lightsquared's SVs can be handled in orbit, certain CEO's can be

is an ATTACK by a private company on the Security of the Nations of
Planet Earth. Who in their f*ing right mind thinks they are going to
get away with it. Raise your hands.

I asked for a response from "people in their (expletive deleted )
right minds" to respond. That doesn't apparently include you. Now
take your seat and STFU.

Human Life and Safety =depend= on GPS. DoD should be on this like
flies on honey. So should the National Security Agency and the CIA.
But you, Mr. Alan Browne, think otherwise. You're entitled to think
as you wish, but it sounds to me like you're not very concerned about
that.
GPS is more than a hobby.

Larry--No need to get in an uproar. National Security is OK, it's
the really sensitive commercial applications that are most hurt by
LightSquared signals. I agree with you 100% that none of the GPS,
GLONASS or GALILEO bands should be compromised in any way.
Furthermore, I can't see Russia, the US or the European Union allowing
that to happen.
Name calling does little good, other than to show that one is upset.

I am very very frustrated by the *know it alls* who portend to decide
what is best for the rest of us. Usually, it turns out, they decide
what is best for themselves and then try to spin it into some crap
mumbo jumbo to dupe the masses. I don't know about anybody else, but
I'm fed up with it to -here- (eyeballs).

It's important to notice that nothing concrete has happened.
Deployment of Lightsquared has not been authorized. No matter how much
of an indication of foul play within the FCC, there has been very
concrete moves from Congress to block FCC from just letting this
happen. Unless Mr. Obama wants this to happen at any cost, it won't
happen. With a Republican congress thirsty to paint the current
administration in its worst possible color, we just don't really need
to worry at this point. There are even a lot of Democrat congressman
and senators clearly aware of this issue and siding with the GPS
users.
Now, it's pretty obvious the chair of FCC needs to have her ass Fired.
That's crystal clear to me. That's the only thing that would show the
White House isn't in this dirty and very serious game. But again, the
general population don't have enough education to understand this. Not
enough engineers in the US. Obama would likely defend himself by
stating that the Lightsquared deployment would have created jobs. That
would be yet another lie with a tiny cover of aparent truth.

One doesn't need to be an Engineer to understand GPS. OTOH, the
average US citizen is pretty stupid/ignorant/uninformed in "Technical"
matters. I don't consider myself *an average US citizen* since I've
worked all my life career with electronics/electromechanics/and RF
(UHF, HF). When it comes to RF Spectrum interference, I have 40 years
of experience with -that-.
In that respect, I claim to be MORE qualified to be the chair of the
FCC than the incumbent resident !!!
The FCC Administrator is a political appointment, an ADMINISTRATOR,
not a scientist. Just another manager, qualified to flip burgers at
your nearest McDonalds.

Anyone who _cares_ about "what Obama wants" anymore is certifiably
Insane. This issue isn't about -him-, its about -us-.
Anybody who voted for Obama in 2008 is to be forgiven. Anybody who
votes for him in 2012 needs to be shot.
