I'm about to give up on the Blackberry as a covert tracking device but yes,
I am expecting to leave the cellphone in the car stuffed in the back seat
or trunk or glove box or wherever while the kids are using the car.
I'm more interested in where they are approximately since they'll tell me
ahead of time and all I need to do is trust but verify. If they're within a
mile or two of where they say they are, that's probably ok (depending on
where they are of course for example, near the border it might matter to be
more accurate).
In exasperation, may I ask if ANYONE has ever used a Blackberry 8700c with
a pay-as-you-go plan as a low-cost tracking device?

if you are going to track individuals, the outputting device will need
to be on them. Your best bet is to install the software which does the
coordinates output on their cell phones. You can expect, in clear site
of the constellations, very exacting locations. Teens rarely go anywhere
without their cells but grrls will dump them into purses where they lose
sat connections.
If you track their cars, again assuming GPS constellations are not
blocked (garages, overhangs, etc.) again...very exacting locations. But
all they have to do is to walk or get in someone else's car and your
scheme is foiled.
