Does anyone have a way to get the Garmin nuvi bluetooth to stop requesting
a connection every single minute to my Blackberry 8700?
I use either the Garmin nuvi 660 bluetooth or the Motorola H700 earpiece
depending on whether I wish to be on speakerphone or not.
When I use the Motorola H700 earpiece bluetooth with my Blackberry 8700, I
have no setup problems. When I shut off the Motorola H700 earpiece, the
connection to the blackberry 8700 cellphone is quickly dropped. When I turn
the Motorola H700 back on, the Blackberry asks whether I wish to connect or
not. If I say no, the Blackberry asks no more that session; and if I say
yes, I'm quickly connected. Every time.
Not so with the Garmin nuvi.
With the Garmin nuvi paired to that same Blackberry 8700, the whole
usability thing goes out the window (essentially making the nuvi almost
useless as a bluetooth device with the Blackberry 8700 at least).
Do you know if there is a firmware fix yet for this basic nuvi BT flaw.

I just realized I forgot to explain fully the usability problem.
When I use the Garmin nuvi 6xxx speakerphone bluetooth with my Blackberry
8700 I get constant connection requests.
Of course, if I say yes on the Blackberry to the connection request, I'm
connected. Likewise if the Blackberry is set to always accept nuvi
connection requests.
The problem occurs when I switch to the Motorola H700 earpiece. At this
point, I don't want to use the nuvi bluetooth speakerphone - I want to use
the earpiece.
So, when the nuvi asks to connect to the Blackberry 8700, I hit the NO
button on the blackberry 8700. But the nuvi keeps asking and asking and
asking and asking. (Remember, the Motorola H700 only asks once which is how
it should be.)
The only way to stop the nuvi from nagging is either to disable the nuvi
bluetooth or to tell the blackberry 8700 to permanently say no to all nuvi
requests.
Telling the blackberry 8700 to permanently ignore all nuvi requests is easy
(one click) but then when I want to actually use the nuvi as a
speakerphone, I have to mess with the settings on the blackberry (remember,
I don't have to do any of this gargage with the Motorola H700 earpiece).
Disabling the nuvi speakerphone is a lot less easy in a car than it should
be, but, it's the solution I use at the moment.
Hence my question.
- Having to disable the nuvi bluetooth just to get it to be usable seems
like the wrong solution from the nuvi engineers.
I'm sure the nuvi engineers are aware of this bluetooth usability problem
(I would guess many of you out there have the same issue and it would be
interesting to see if it's just with the Blackberry phones or not).
My question is:
- Does anyone know of a fix (short of disabling the nuvi bluetooth which is
what I do today)?

I should clarify that I could tell the blackberry to permanently accept all
nuvi requests ..... but then I couldn't use the Motorola H700 earpiece! :(
Since the Motorola H700 works flawlessly (i.e., the way it should) with the
Blackberry 8700 - I suspect the flaw is in the nuvi bluetooth firmware.
My main question is whether others have this same nubi bluetooth nagging
problem when you switch to another bluetooth device - and how you solved
it!
Please help me,
Sharon

Does anyone else use this combination?
* Nuvi bluetooth capable GPS
* Motorola earpiece
* Blackberry (or similar phone)
Do YOU have the same problem that the nuvi keeps asking to connect even
after you've told it (from the blackberry) NO.
What workaround do YOU use?
